Our Story
It all started when our founder, John Smith, was struggling with neck pain and headaches from improper sleep support. No matter what pillow he tried, he couldn’t seem to find the right fit for his needs.
After doing some research, John learned about the benefits of bamboo pillows – how they contour to the head and neck, provide breathability to remain cool, and have hypoallergenic properties for sensitive sleepers. Intrigued, he decided to try a bamboo pillow himself and was amazed at the difference it made in his quality of sleep and how he felt throughout the day.
John knew then that he wanted to share the gift of better sleep with others. So in 2010, he launched Zen Bamboo® Pillow on a mission to create the most comfortable and supportive bamboo pillows on the market.

Meet Our Founder
Zen Bamboo® Pillow was founded in 2010 by entrepreneur John Smith. As a long-time pillow tester and sleep optimization enthusiast, John was on a personal quest to create the ideal pillow for all sleep positions.
After suffering from poor sleep and waking up with headaches and neck pain for years, John knew there had to be a better pillow solution. He tried every variety – feather, polyfill, memory foam, latex – you name it. But nothing gave him proper support and alignment.
Out of frustration, John decided to make his own pillow – one tailored specifically for his sleeping style and comfort needs. After much experimentation, he landed on the winning combination of shredded memory foam and bamboo fabric. The mix of adjustability and breathability was a game-changer. For the first time in years, John slept soundly without neck tension or overheating.
John realized he couldn’t be the only one struggling to find the right pillow fit. So he made it his mission to share his pillow innovations with the world and help others discover the joys of supported, restful sleep. The Bamboo Pillow Company was born.
Over the past decade, John has expanded his original vision into the successful pillow brand Zen Bamboo® is today. But his commitment to improving lives through better sleep remains as strong as ever. John continues to oversee Zen Bamboo® Pillow’s product development and creative direction.
